I’m Kasey Reeder, Founder, Horse Lover and Rider Advocate.
As an experienced professional horse trainer, certified riding instructor, and coach for more than 30 years, my mission sounds simple:
“Improve the rider to improve the horse.”
But the truth is my work is cut out for me, as the fundamentals of riding that work for any style or discipline are missed in most riding facilities today.
When I say “fundamentals,” it might sound like what I do is for beginners — but it’s not. I coach advanced equestrians who want to level up their riding experience.
Fundamentals include all of the essential elements elite riders (and I) work on every day:
- Relaxation (mental and physical)
- Balance (mental and physical)
- Ability to follow the horse’s motion (mobility and stability)
- Application and timing of the aids
- Communication through the aids
- Influencing the horse’s stride
I fell in love with horses and started riding as a child at my family’s farm in central Ohio. I competed in English and Western disciplines throughout grade school and earned a spot on the equestrian team at The Ohio State University. Throughout high school and college, I worked as an assistant trainer under my coach.
After Ohio State, I naturally moved into teaching horseback riding and attended Meredith Manor International Equestrian School to earn my Riding Master VI and Level II teaching certifications.
In the fall of 2001, I founded Reflective Horsemanship™ to buck traditional riding instruction and instead focus on my core belief: the horse is a reflection of its rider — mind, body, and soul.
To get a better grasp of the human body, I went to the American Institute of Alternative Medicine to become a licensed massage therapist. This deep dive into anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology helped me crack the biometrics code of the mind-body connection.
Today I consider myself “The Rider’s Mechanic™.” I evaluate each student’s balance and functional challenges on horseback. Using my background in bodywork, movement, and riding, I address musculoskeletal dysfunctions and correct postural and muscle imbalances to make effective riding possible.
Here’s the thing about results: everybody wants them as fast as possible, trainers and riders alike. This is why the basics are often skipped, and the essentials of riding fall by the wayside.
My mission is to change that. I’m dedicated to ensuring that all is correct from the inside out.
Riderology™ is a holistic approach to functional riding that combines body awareness, rider development, and biomechanics. My students learn about the body’s function, mental strategies, emotional discipline, and what I call the "Rider’s Training Scale.”
By offering a complete, integrated rider training system, I provide you with the missing pieces to your desired performance and the tools necessary to forge a harmonious partnership with your horse. I teach you how to ride and train your own horse so you can participate in any discipline you choose with success.
Once you have an independent seat, there’s nothing you can’t do with your horse.
And I’m here to ensure you accomplish everything you’ve dreamed of.
